This program is designed to help provide the health benefits of regular exercise for people 50 and older. Sound Steps helps people increase their physical activity and social connections in this walking program that is accessible and welcoming to all.
Sound Steps offers weekly walking groups from a variety of locations, monthly hikes, and a training program (from February through June) to participate in a 5K, 10K and Half Marathon walk event.
The Seattle Human Services Department’s Aging & Disability Services (ADS) division is a partner with Seattle Parks and Recreation in activities and programs that promote healthy aging among older adults. Some Seattle-area Senior Centers funded by the City include Sound Steps programs. ADS also recently launched a web site that encourages walking as a healthy activity. See www.seattle.gov/walking.
