Dog Owners in South Lake Union Celebrate New Temporary Off-Leash Area at Denny Park
Seattle Parks and Recreation, Vulcan Real Estate and Amazon.com invite the community to a celebration for the new temporary off-leash area in Denny Park on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 3 – 5 p.m. Denny Park is located at 100 Dexter Ave. N. and the temporary off-leash area is in the north-central sector of the park. It will be open during park hours 4 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily.
The event features music by Spruce Street School marimba band, dog treats from Scraps Dog Bakery, and snacks from Dining Dog Café and Bakery and Dante’s Inferno Dogs.
“We know how much dogs add to the excellent quality of life in South Lake Union,” says Ada M. Healey, vice president of real estate, Vulcan Inc. “We’re very pleased to support the off-leash area opening at Denny Park.”
A donation from Vulcan Real Estate funded the construction project and Amazon.com will fund the on-going maintenance for the off-leash area.
“The South Lake Union neighborhood is a great place for our employees and their dogs to explore and play every day,” said John Schoettler, Director of Global Real Estate and Facilities at Amazon.com. “We’re delighted to be supporting the new Denny Park off-leash area for the entire community to enjoy.”
At the end of this year, Parks will evaluate how it is working and bring that evaluation to the Park Board. Parks will continue to work to identify a permanent site for an off-leash area in South Lake Union.
