Seattle Parks and Recreation is hosting the final community meeting for the new Jefferson Park Skatepark. At the beginning of the meeting Parks will provide an update on the Jefferson Park Expansion project, including the Beacon Mountain Play Area and the Jefferson Park Playfield. The meeting will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Jefferson Park Community Center, 3801 Beacon Ave S, from 6 – 8 p.m.
Grindline and The Berger Partnership gathered input at the first two public meetings and have prepared a skatepark schematic design based on this input, Parks review, and their professional expertise. The final schematic design will be presented, and the design team will answer community questions. Construction is scheduled for 2011.
Phase One construction at Jefferson Park is 85% complete, and the park is anticipated to open in fall 2010.
From 6 – 6:40 p.m. a construction update on Jefferson Park Expansion will be given with a final design presentation on Jefferson Park Playfield and Beacon Mountain Play Area.
Beacon Mountain is an educational and experiential play area designed by SvR Design. Ecological in both play and structural design, this project promises to create an enthralling environment for all.
A Master Plan for the site was developed in 2002 as a guide for the development of Jefferson Park. The community participated in prioritizing elements for the park development at a meeting in the spring of 2009. The 2000 Pro Parks Levy and the 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy contribute to the budget, which is more than $15 million, to implement the community vision for this park.
