Potential New Park on Capitol Hill
Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a community meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Lowell Elementary School, 1058 E Mercer St, from 6:30 – 8 p.m.
At this meeting, Parks will provide information about a proposed new 12,000-square-foot property acquisition located on the corner of Federal Avenue E and E Republic Street. The community is encouraged to attend the meeting and provide input.
The 2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy allocates funding for the acquisition of properties in areas that have been identified in the 2006 Development Plan and Gap Analysis. Capitol Hill Urban Village is one such area identified that will receive funding for a new park.
In November 2008, Seattle voters passed the Parks and Green Spaces Levy, which provides $146 million over six years for neighborhood and green space acquisitions and more than 50 named development projects. The goal of the acquisition team is to acquire properties in areas that have been identified in the Parks and Recreation 2006 Development Plan and Gap Analysis as deficient in open space relative to the City’s comprehensive plan. Development projects provide improved playfields, reservoir lid parks, forest and stream restoration, community gardens and renovated playgrounds throughout Seattle.
