Seattle Parks and Recreation will host the third and final meeting to plan the new 9th Avenue NW Park development on Thursday, January 28, 2010. The meeting will be from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Whittier Elementary School, 1320 NW 75th St. Parks encourages the neighborhood to participate.
At this third community meeting, the design team will present the preferred concept design, which was created from the input gathered from the community at the previous meetings.
This 39,000-square-foot property was purchased with funding from the 2000 Pro Parks Levy and now is being developed with $800,000 from the Parks & Green Spaces Levy. Construction of the project will be completed by spring 2011.
Seattle voters passed the Parks and Green Spaces Levy by an impressive 59% vote in November 2008. The new $146 million Levy provides acquisition funding for new neighborhood parks and green spaces and development funding for projects such as improved playfields, reservoir lid parks, renovated playgrounds, community gardens, and safety upgrades at city owned cultural facilities.
